Stefan Gian-Carlo Marseglia is a final year undergraduate student at City University London reading a BA (Hons) in journalism and sociology.
From an early age Stefan showed a flair for the arts and media and in 2000 performed a play at the Millennium Dome entitled Our Town's Story in association with Mc.Donalds.
Following on from Stefan's first taste of the arts and media, an internship for his local newspaper, The Evening Telegraph, was completed for two weeks at the start of January 2005. This fuelled his passion for journalism which has led to him embarking on the BA (Hons) course.
Leadership skills and qualities were gained by Stefan in 2005 through participating in the Junior Sports Leader scheme. This is where he conducted various sports lessons for primary school children across Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
Being a conscientious student, Stefan won the Dr. Brian Mawhinney shield in 2005 for the most progress made during the GCSE years. He also gained an Honours award in 2005 from the principal of Stanground College for good GCSE results.
2006 was the year Stefan developed his debating skills, since he was selected by members of Sixth Form staff to attend The Global Sixth Forum of 2006; subsequently became a peer mentor in HIV/AIDs.
2006 also heralded the start of The 6th Forum, a student magazine created by members of Stefan's local Sixth Form, in which Stefan helped to design, write and ultimately publish.
Moving away from print production, Stefan dabbed into the world of online journalism in 2007 by working as a news reporter at the Harry Potter website entitled The Snitch. Through working at this website Stefan was able to establish contacts with media outlets such as Bloomsbury, Electronic Arts, Mattel, Scholastic and Warner Bros., which consequently enabled him to attend tours, press conferences and preview screenings on behalf of the website.
2007 saw the year Stefan intensified his relationship with online journalism, since he attended the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie premieres in London and Los Angeles in June/July, as a journalist for TheSnitch. Through these premieres he interviewed the cast of the movie as well as J.K. Rowling.
2007 also was the year that saw Stefan establish his own Harry Potter website with author Raadhika Madala; their website, TheDailySnitcher, is still running to this day.
Stefan attended a set visit for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie in January 2008; through this he interviewed the cast and crew and produced a report for TheDailySnitcher.
To expand his online journalism skills Stefan also attended the EA Be The One 2008 event and interviewed James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter movies), the U.K. Twilight premiere and interviewed Eliza Bennett from the movie Inkheart to ultimately produce reports for TheDailySnitcher.
Through studying at City University London, Stefan created an online blog entitled Shop 'Till They Drop where he highlighted the issues of sweatshops and poverty. Blogging on a regular basis, a readership was ultimately gained, while recognition by the ethical trading company Impactt Limited also occured.
City University London was also the place that alllowed Stefan to write for the student newspaper The Inquirer and to also become a Student Ambassador. Through joining this scheme Stefan was able to act as an inspirational and positive Higher Education role model for younger pupils and participated in numerous events at the university itself and schools across Greater London to promote the positive benefits of Higher Education.
Joining a similar scheme in early 2009, the Aim Higher Associates Scheme, Stefan was able to utilise the skills that he enhanced through becoming a Student Ambassador, in order to mentor a small group of secondary school students on a weekly basis regarding the issues surrounding Higher Education.
2009, March in particular, also saw Stefan complete his shorthand module at City University London where he gained the highest speed possible for the module, 100 words per minute.
Later that year, in June and July, Stefan became part of the high-profile project, "Developing the progression of Islington students into FE/HE through local partnerships" in association with City University London.
Similarly, Stefan was also accredited with a certificate from City University London to state that he successfully participated in the "City University/British Transport Police Professional Mentoring" scheme.
Following his passion for Harry Potter, Stefan attended the world premiere of the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie in July 2009 and produced video footage for his websites.
Moving back to university life, Stefan was awarded the Alumni Award of 2009 from City University London for his outstanding contribution to university life, while 2010 saw Stefan be nominated for "Most Committed Ambassador," "Student Ambassador of the Year" and "Outstanding Engagement with Young People" awards for City University's Student Impact Awards 2010.
Stefan was the "Most Committed Ambassador" category.
2010 also was the year that Stefan jumped over the pond and visited Orlando. He was amongst the first journalists to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios, Orlando, and reported on the official release date to the world through his websites.
Stefan is always looking to enhance his journalistic skills and has done work experience for a variety of mediums including GMTV, Ideal Home World Teleshopping, CivilSociety and City University's Centre for Career and Skills Development.
He is currently looking for a full-time job in either broadcast, online or print journalism.
